Soft Ferromagnetic and Amorphous Cores

CTS offers a range of core designs optimized for high-speed, contactless current sensing when paired with a magnetic field sensor (such as a Hall sensor) and a current conductor. These core designs help shield the sensor from interference caused by parasitic magnetic fields from nearby conductors or other magnetic sources, ensuring accurate and reliable measurements.

What are Soft Ferromagnetic Cores?

A core, also known as the concentrator, is a crucial component of a current sensor that channels the magnetic flux generated by the electric current. A core made from soft ferromagnetic materials supports being easily magnetized and demagnetized, making them a great choice for influencing the flux produced by the electric current.

CTS’s core designs use soft ferromagnetic materials that utilize either amorphous or laminated materials. Our lamination designs use stacks of tightly bonded materials like iron, effectively preventing external flux from disrupting current operations.

Our amorphus core designs use iron that has been manipulted to have a non-crytalline structure that supports higher magnitization and energy manipulation.

Both core designs feature superior material characteristics leading to higher bandwidth, higher linearity, lower core losses, and very low hysteresis.

The C-Core

The C-Core is a laminated soft ferromagnetic core featuring superior material characteristics such as high linearity and very low hysteresis. This core is designed for high-speed contactless current sensing in combination with a Hall sensor and a current conductor. This core is a better choice for harsher demanding applications that need more protection from magnetic interfierences.

The AMC1R5-L Core

The AMC1R5-L is an amorphous iron-based soft ferromagnetic core designed for contactless current sensing applications. It is used in combination with a Hall sensor which is placed in the airgap.
