Q&A with Martin Baumeister, Senior VP at CTS

We sat down with Martin Baumeister, Senior Vice President at CTS Corporation, to explore how our Automotive products are redefining innovation, safety, and sustainability in the global mobility and industrial markets.

Martin, what makes CTS's team a standout partner in today’s automotive and industrial landscape?
"Our strength lies in our ability to deliver more than just components—we deliver complete, integrated solutions. Our unique selling proposition is built on four pillars: a can-do attitude, deep technical expertise, a customer-first mindset, and seamless team collaboration. Whether it’s automotive, off-road, or heavy equipment, we bring the same level of precision, agility, and partnership to every project."

How do you ensure safety and compliance, especially with critical components like pedals and actuators?
"Safety is non-negotiable. Our pedal systems are designed with ISO compliance in mind, and we incorporate robust internal diagnostics into our smart actuators—particularly in our 648 and the new 652 and modular 654 series. These diagnostics provide real-time feedback and fault detection, which helps OEMs meet stringent safety standards and reduce warranty risks. It’s a feature that’s not just smart—it’s essential."

You mentioned smart actuators. Can you elaborate on how they benefit OEMs?
"Absolutely. Our smart actuators are equipped with advanced internal diagnostics that monitor performance and detect anomalies before they become failures. This proactive approach enhances vehicle reliability and supports predictive maintenance strategies. For OEMs, that means fewer recalls, better uptime, and a stronger brand reputation."

What about sensing technologies—how do you handle failure detection?
"We use the SENT command protocol on our pedal sensors, which enables high-resolution digital communication and supports failure mode detection."

Sustainability is a growing priority. How is CTS supporting OEM ESG goals?
"We’re actively exploring sustainable materials and manufacturing practices that align with our customers’ ESG objectives. While it’s an evolving area for us, we’re committed to reducing our environmental footprint and helping our partners do the same. It’s not just about compliance—it’s about responsibility."

CTS is known for fast prototyping. How does that impact your customer relationships?
"Our ability to turn around functional prototypes quickly is a game-changer. From concept to production, we offer full engineering support and treat our customers like part of the team. That collaborative approach accelerates development cycles and ensures that the final product is exactly what the customer envisioned.
"

You serve a global market. How do you support OEMs with international operations?
"We’re a global company with engineering, manufacturing, and support teams across North America, Europe, and Asia. That means we can provide localized support while maintaining global consistency. For OEMs operating worldwide, that’s a huge advantage."

Customization seems to be a core strength. Can you expand on that?
"Customization is one of our superpowers. We understand that every millimeter counts in modern vehicle design. Whether it’s fitting into tight spaces, achieving a specific aesthetic, or integrating seamlessly with other systems, we deliver solutions that don’t compromise on safety, performance, or style. It’s a fit without compromise.
"

Do you support markets beyond automotive?

"Yes, and proudly so. We have full capabilities to support off-road, industrial, and heavy equipment applications. These sectors demand rugged, reliable, and often highly customized solutions—and that’s exactly what we deliver."

Some competitors position themselves as “future ready” and “tech-forward.” How does CTS compare?
"We’re right there — and arguably ahead. Our investment in electrification sensing, smart actuators, and modular platforms positions us as a tech-forward partner ready for the next generation of mobility. We’re not just reacting to trends — we’re helping shape them."
